New Delhi: Just hours after getting bail, former CWG OC president Suresh Kalmadi, who allegedly siphoned off a chunk of taxpayers’ money in the mega-event, was offered the post of Indian Olympic Association’s president.

Vice president of IOA, Tarlochan Singh told reporters that ‘there was no opposition to Kalmadi’ and he was free to join as the body’s chief despite his involvement in the multi-crore scam.

Kalmadi has come out of jail after nine months and it seems that in typical fashion of politicians, his misdeeds have already been forgotten and the common man’s cause lost.

Earlier in the day, the Delhi High Court granted bail to former Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (OC) chairperson Suresh Kalmadi, an accused in a Games-related graft case.

Kalmadi was granted the bail on two sureties of Rs 5 lakhs each, after the court decided that he could be given the permission to move out of the jail, bringing a huge sigh of relief from him. His lawyer told reports, “He (Kalmadi) is expected to walk out of Tihar jail today.”

Besides Kalmadi, Justice Mukta Gupta also granted bail to former OC Director General V K Verma who is also an accused in the case pertaining to the mega-sporting event held in New Delhi in 2010.

Kalmadi, Verma and nine others have been accused of allegedly awarding a contract to a Swiss firm to install a Timing-Scoring-Result (TSR) system for the Games at an exorbitant rate, causing a loss of over Rs 90 crore to the state exchequer.
